It' been over a year since I've made any updates...

I'd chalk that up to me being totally lazy, but hopefully I can start updating and posting more frequently :D
  1. How long have you been on DeviantArt?

I've been using dA since mid-2008, but realisticallyI've been part of the dA family since Jan 2011 (4 years)
  1. What does your username mean?

It doesn't really have much meaning other than acknowledging the fact that I'm from the Southern part of the USA. I've actually been meaning to change it to something that fits a bit better with my youtube channel...
  1. Describe yourself in three words.

        Fun, Free, and Relaxed
  1. Are you left or right handed?

        Right Handed... I'm also Left-Eye dominant :D
  1. What was your first deviation?

        Arrival by TheSouthernAndrew
  1. What is your favourite type of art to create?

I prefer 3D animation, but I'm no stranger to cinematography, photography, and digital art :D
  1. If you could instantly master a different art style, what would it be?

As much as I would be opposed to the idea, I would probably pick an animation Neo-Traditional art style to master. There's always been something that's drawn me to the appeal.
  1. What was your first favourite?

Not really, I did it as a school graphic design project, and at the time I didn't really know what kind of art I personally had interests in.
  1. What type of art do you tend to favourite the most?

I tend to enjoy Space and Fantasy works the most :D
  1. Who is your all-time favourite deviant artist?

        risachantag.deviantart.com/
  1. If you could meet anyone on DeviantArt in person, who would it be?

  1. How has a fellow deviant impacted your life?

I've had many friends in real live who were fellow deviants, they've made me a more creative and colour person :D
  1. What are your preferred tools to create art?

Source Filmmaker (when I get my hands on a rig that can run it), MMD, Final Cut Pro, and GIMP
  1. What is the most inspirational place for you to create art?

My mind when I sleep; I've never had a lucid dream before, but when ever I have a dream that's really cool, I write it and everything about it down.
  1. What is your favourite DeviantArt memory?

Hmm, good question. Can I get back to you on that? :)

MMD Alternative - NANOEM (1.7.0 Build) by TheSouthernAndrew
MMD Alternative - NANOEM (1.7.0 Build)
It's worth noting that distribution of MMDAI2/VMPM/VPMM has ceased, thus putting off many Mac based MMD animators in search of a good yet more up-to-date MMD app for the time being. However an alternative app created by the same dev has surfaced under the name NANOEM.

NANOEM - MMDAI comparison and overview:

Currently nanoem is still early in development, but I've been playing around with the current build (1.7.0) of the app for a couple hours and here are the most notable points of how it compares to MMDAI and its sister apps so far:

1. The UI is similar but different; it's definitely more intuitive and more accessible compared to MMDAI2.
2. Physics simulation works well (likely better than MMDAI), although extra refinement on how collisions are managed are needed.
3. NANOEM takes normal PMD models quite nicely, and PMX models do work although they seem to slow down the preview and export renders.
4. Preview and export render speeds are quite reliant your CPU and RAM capabilities.
5. There is currently not as much control on exporting video/images with nanoem compared to MMDAI2. Nanoem currently only allows for 3 preset resolutions all exported at 30 fps.
6. There also seems to be less control over the camera; nanoem allows for the camera to be moved to orbit around the origin of the 3d space, but does not currently allow changes to XYZ placement of the camera or changes to the roll, pitch or yaw of the camera itself.
7. Lighting changes (such as colour and positioning) are managed live in-engine and don't require that you start the preview in order to see them. In MMDAI2 only color changes were managed in-engine.

**Reminder - Nanoem is still under development, and more information is to come soon as the software is improved and as testing progresses.

Personal Statements on NANOEM (so far):
+ I like the UI, it's more intuitive and straightforward to use. Anyone used to the MMDAI2 format should be able to adjust to the new workflow quite easily. Plus the new UI is just nice to look at...
+ Nanoem handles much more of the simulations in-engine as opposed to MMDAI2 (and it's sister apps) handling them before a preview render has started.
+ Nanoem allows you to scroll through, pause, resume, and slide between different parts of the animation set; as opposed to MMDAI2 which required you to view the animation either from the start or from a preset frame. These are major improvements that are happily welcomed!!! :D
+Nanoem seems to be on a better graphics engine, because the preview renders are just nice to look at. :D

- Although I like the physics and the addition of the "Accuracy" feature, some of nanoem's physics seems kinda "floatly" (gravity might not currently be set to exactly 9.81 m/s^2. This might also be a result that some models are rendered slower than others tested, more testing is required to confirm.
-Nanoem also does not offer as much control and customizability as MMDAI2 and it's sister apps do on multiple points of the app. Hopefully these will return in later versions.
- Nanoem is more reliant on computer performance compared to it's predecessors; although it's understandable, it just means I may need to look into upgrades for my current rig (now that I'm on a desktop rig now instead of working off my MBP - more on that in Computer Information)

I'm holding off judgement until better builds and updates are made to NANOEM, but for the time being I'll stick to MMDAI2. Nanoem's lack of customizable controls is just too big a downfall to get me to change as of right now.
